Crack+Havana Club...
@ Start The Bus
Harrys Gym and The Fauns are two vastly contrasting bands, but the eclectic nature of the line-up for tonight’s Crack Magazine and Havana Club Rum Presents…is clearly going down a storm with fans.
Free rum on entry is unsurprisingly resonating very well with the arriving punters who form an orderly queue round the corner of Start the Bus.
The ability to harness a music fan whose tastes effortlessly bend towards the raucous post-pop of Harrys Gym and the melancholic, soaring shoegaze of The Fauns, always makes for a party with style. Tonight is a winner on a number of levels.
Harrys Gym have built up a sterling following with good reason. Norwegian female-fronted pop, they intermingle this with a real ethereal and rocky underbelly. Their drummer especially showing what a talented group they are. Currently in the middle of a UK tour, they generate the kind of atmosphere usually reserved for bigger venues.
Following them are The Fauns, who are a Bristol band far removed from Bristol cliché. In the mould of shoegaze superstars, their sound is sweet, emotional and charged with depth. The whole thing is brilliantly washed over by Alison Garner, whose voice provides a beautiful reference point to the brilliant acoustics.
Finally, future-garage stars, Disclosure close proceedings with their vinyl only set of bouncing cuts. These two, despite only being 16, have the musical maturity of someone with a grey beard and wrinkles. Their ability is undeniable and acts as a perfect closing spectacle to the legions of punters still on the dance floor.
Another evening of quality music, tonight serves to highlight more quality music and value for those in attendance.
