Crack Mag+Havana Club:
In the dance music world - Optimo are stalwarts. But more than that, a name synonymous with the kind of party that would be the envy of even the most hyped trendsetter in town.
From their Sunday parties in the Sub-Club in Glasgow, to huge mix CDs for Fabric and their own How To Kill The DJ series (which many see as the per-cursor to the 2 Many DJs imprint long before they took over the planet), Optimo have been a DJ’s DJ for a long time.
Joining forces with the ever-impressive Club Cosmique for the quite beautifully titled Crack Cosmique special, Crack Magazine and Havana Club Rum have been responsible for bringing down some of the best music around for a series of monthly parties at Start the Bus. And tonight is no exception.
Getting JD Twitch (one half of the Optimo operation) then to play Start the Bus’ dance floor is a massive booking on a number of levels. From the free Havana Club on entry, to the small intimate space tonight’s revelers occupy, this is not your usual party fare for an act used to taking up much bigger spaces.
The mix is the usual Optimo fare of rushing house music, big techno bangers and disco grooves. Seamlessly meandering between styles, this an evening that showcases the old and the new in bountiful measure.
It’s a rum soaked night those in attendance were glad they came out for judging by the big smiles and the empty bottles at the end of the night.
