2 Many DJs

@ Millenium Music Hall - 24/05/2011

2 Many DJs

Over the last decade, 2 Many DJs have built a reputation as the most surefire and reliable way to get a party started.

Their first trip to Wales in over four years was bound to be something of an occasion and the fact it came at the tail-end of a Bank Holiday Weekend of blazing sunshine only added to the carnival atmosphere inside Millennium Music Hall.

The C-Y-N-T residents started the night with a flawless soundtrack of electro house, but as the crowd grew, it’s clear to see the audience were here to see two people tonight.

On the inside it looked like everyone and their gran in Cardiff has turned out for the boys from Belgium making the night feel something akin to a crazed wedding reception. There’s the over affectionate aunty who’s had a few to many sherrys, the drunk uncle trying out his rusty old dance moves after one too many lagers and a shed-load of hyped up youngsters, feeling the effects of a colossal sugar rush after decimating the jam tarts at the buffet.

2 Many DJ’s certainly have the music to match. Coming on to their trademark remix of The Chemical Brothers Hey Boy, Hey Girl, shouts of "2 Many DJ’s, here we go!" reverberated around the room. Girls climbed aboard shoulders and the venue began to resemble a scene from a packed festival tent.

The Dewaele brothers seamless blend of classic tunes and big room electro/fidget house is an irresistible formula. Moving from 90’s house classic, You’ve Got to Show Me Love, to The Specials, Gangsters while briefly stopping off at Stardust’s Music Sounds Better With You, 2 Many DJ’s can’t fail to leave a packed room beaming. Mix of the night sees Underword's Rez flawlessly seep into Blur's Girls and Boys. You cannot help but be enamoured.

As their set descended into a constant barrage of pumping electro, the snippets of pop classics became sparser and the crowd morphed into a sea of fist pumping and constant whooping.

Ending their set with the holy trinity of Phantom Pt II by Justice, Blue Monday and Prodigy’s Out Of Space, it’s clear 2 Many DJ’s were here to give the crowd exactly what they wanted. Although their mash-up sets may have changed little over the past few years, it’s their lack of pretension and ability to deliver flawless mixes that has given this duo from Ghent a place in people’s hearts the world over. Apparently there was a little do at Buckingham Palace a week later. They couldn’t have done better than to get these two spinning the classics at the after-party.
