Crack rolled into Dalston venue The Nest for their London launch with a whole load of rum, three live acts, three DJs and a palpable air of anticipation for the magazine’s launch in the capital.

With a queue stretching round the block by 9.30, there was a full crowd for opener Motherhood’s solo exploration of synth-beats and pop-tronica. So often in venues, the first act is left a bit in the dark, not the case tonight as his music is gratefully received by a receptive audience.

Following some infectious on-trend house sounds from the ever-reliable WLT, Coasts took to the stage for only their second gig since a prolonged hiatus. Judging by the tightness of their sound, the entranced crowd that hang off every addictive chorus and the attitude of the band themselves, there is clearly a very bright future for the young Bristol five-piece. New devotees won over and a rock sound that owes itself to a swathe of modern influence, this is one of the best support slots this reviewer has witnessed all year.

As the free Havana Club rum continued to flow and The Nest reached full capacity, Trophy Wife took to the stage in support of their brilliant new Bruxism EP. There has been considerable hype around the quality of this release and seeing them transfer their talent to the live arena with such brilliant results is an affirmation of their superb progress as a band. The wonderful synth drums and their mixture of belting pop gems and progressive building tracks are juxtaposed brilliantly in a varied and entertaining set.

As the night wound on Pardon My French provided the house drama that kept the dance floor brimming. A truly successful evening and launch party in the capital, it would be hard to imagine a better introduction.


Crack’s next party at The Nest is on December 10th and features Gallops, Idles, Pardon My French and Phileas Thugg.
