Memory Tapes

Memory Tapes

Nu-Disco brilliance from the brilliantly named Davye Hawk. Leaving the clichés surrounding the genre at home, this looping, spaced out disco-rock for hippies, not club kids. If MGMT do any more drugs, yet manage to miraculously produce a decent second album, it’ll probably because they enlisted this chap to help them. After famously ignoring Diplo’s phone call to involve him in his Major Lazer project, Mr Hawk has also had offers to a Michael Jackson remix album (pressure much?). This is heartbreaking spacey stuff. Hawk’s eerie androgynous lyrical spouts and slightly off centre disco are possibly the best thing this editor has managed to get his hands on all year. Essential.
