Crucifix Lane Nightclub to shut

South London’s Crucifix Lane nightclub is set to shut after Easter weekend, and is the latest in a series of forced closures in the area.

Housed in a railway arch, the club will follow the same fate as former neighbours Cable, shut down in May 2013. Crucifix Lane has a history spanning over 20 years, and will be popularly remembered as the site of The Chemical Brothers’ first London live show back in 1994.

General Manager Alex Brooks blamed the onset of gentrification for the closure. In a press release, Brooks wrote:

“The establishment is at it again… Crucifix Lane is the next London nightclub to fall foul of rich redevelopers and callous gentrification. Just around the corner from Cable, and in the same set of railway arches, Network Rail are coming in to batten down the hatches and take control of the space to make way for London Bridge Station expansion.”

The club will host two farewell parties. April 2nd will see Stephen Tang, Janina and more play, whilst April 4th will host Margaret Dygus and Tobi Neumann.
