Listening to music aids recovery from surgery

Scientists suggest that music can significantly help a patients recovery after surgery

Researchers from Brunel University examined over 7000 patients and found that listening to music before, during and after surgery can reduce a patients pain, anxiety and need for painkillers.

In a statement Dr Catherine Meads said “”Music is a non-invasive, safe and cheap intervention that should be available to everyone undergoing surgery,” she said. She went on to suggest that patients should be allowed to choose their own music.

The results come after a meta-analysis of several smaller studies confirmed a belief that has been held since the very earliest days of surgical procedure.

We always knew there was a reason we loved music so much.
