Panasonic to relaunch Technics turntables

Discontinued in 2010, Panasonic’s Technics turntable set the standard for DJing vinyl

It’s high time for a comeback. Panasonic announced today that they are bringing back their iconic Technics line of turntables. The brand was discontinued in 2010 and has been mourned greatly by the dance-music community ever since.

According to WIRED Panasonic announced the move at their annual IFA press conference in Berlin and have stated that they will endeavour to stay true to the elements that made the SP10 and SL-1200 turntables so. The news comes at a time when vinyl sales in the UK are up 56% and Panasonic’s director of Technics Michiko Ogawa spoke about the move, “Turntables are a very iconic product for the Technics brand,” He told WIRED, “It is important to show our sincere dedication [to that]. The turntable market is very small but it is a very important brand product.”

We’re not clear on the release date yet but the player will definitely launch in the UK. It’s also not entirely clear what the turntable will look like but Panasonic have revealed an image which appears to be a prototype of the player. You can see that above and read more about the relaunch here.
