Feminist group Collective Shout calls Tyler, The Creator’s new song “a tantrum”

“He is yet to grow up and take responsibility for what he has put out into the world”

Tyler released a song yesterday named FUCK IT, recorded two weeks ago and so titled as he “COULDNT COME UP WITH A NAME”.

Its lyrics broach the testy subject of his ban from Australia, a decision made by Australian authorities after a campaign from feminist movement Collective Shout in response to sexism in his earlier albums. Tyler’s access to the UK has also been suspended for “three to five years” according to his manager, and Chris Brown’s domestic violence conviction has raised questions about his travel privileges.

FUCK IT questions the reasoning behind Eminem’s free reign to tour despite his own misogynistic imagery. “Tell Australia I’m sneaking in with a mic in my hand,” Tyler raps. “Instead of the vegetables that I packed in my backpack / When Marshall had this problem what the fuck was they telling him? / Is it cause of status or his melanin lacks black?”

“How can I be misogynist when I love titties and ass?” he also rhymes. “How can I be homophobic when my boyfriend’s a fag?”

In response, Collective Shout pointed out to Yahoo! Australia that they have in fact campaigned against Eminem’s access to the country in 2014 but to no avail.

But the movement’s campaigns manager also added: “While [Tyler, The Creator] may have been a young man when he wrote music describing raping women, mutilating their bodies, locking them in his basement and raping their corpses, he’s not a child anymore, and he is yet to grow up and take responsibility for what he has put out into the world.”
