Watch Kylie Minogue read Nick Cave’s rejection letter to MTV

Cave wrote the letter after being nominated for Best Male Artist at the VMAs in 1996

As part of a series called Letters Live, the video spinoff of Letters of Note, Nick Cave’s collaborator Kylie Minogue has read his 1996 letter of rejection to MTV.

The note explains how Cave disagreed with the competitive nature of awards ceremonies. “My muse is not a horse and I am in no horse race,” he said.

The pair previously appeared together on Cave’s song Where The Wild Roses Grow from 1996’s Murder Ballads. Cave mentions both the album and the song in his letter citing them as the reason for the attention he’d garnered around the time.
