David Bowie has passed away

The singer lost his battle with cancer yesterday evening

David Bowie has passed away just days after his 69th birthday. The singer, known for enduring singles like Space Oddity, Changes and Life on Mars, had been battling cancer for 18 months.

A statement posted on Bowie’s official Facebook page reads “January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.” Bowie’s son Duncan Jones added “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.” via Twitter.

Bowie’s most recent album Blackstar was released last Friday (8 January) and is the latest addition to the list of 28 studio albums he recorded throughout his career including classics like Diamond Dogs, Station to Station and Low. He was also much loved for his roles in films such as Labyrinth and The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Bowie is survived by his son Duncan, daughter Alexandria and wife Iman. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
