“My album is for every1 told they’re not black enough, 2 black, 2 queer, not queer the right way, the under appreciated”

Dev Hynes has revealed cover artwork for his forthcoming album as Blood Orange, Freetown Sound.

The artwork depicts two lovers in an embrace and was shot by New York-based photographer Deana Lawson, who is celebrated for the intimacy she instills in her portraits of strangers. See it here on Blood Orange’s website set to the sound of what are presumably field recordings of NYC street noises.

Hynes revealed the artwork alongside a series of tweets. “My album is for every1 told they’re not black enough, 2 black, 2 queer, not queer the right way, the under appreciated,” he wrote. “it’s a clapback.”

“I’ve been quiet on twitter e.t.c because it’s too noisy for me,” he continued in a linked tweet. “I decided if ppl want to hear me it should be through my music, speak soon.”
