Dark Entries reissue Frankie Knuckles’ first remix

Knuckles’ 1985 remix of Jago’s I’m Going To Go, originally on Full Time Records, is repressed by San Francisco’s Dark Entries Records for release on 21 August

The late, great Frankie Knuckle’s very first commercially available remix is to be remastered and repackaged as part of the Dark Entries Editions series, dedicated to reissuing classic Italo cuts. The E.P is released alongside four other new additions to the series by the likes of Zwischenfall and Wanexa.

Side A contains both the original and instrumental by Michele Violante & Kynsha’s Othello-inspired project Jago. The track is built around a laser-sharp bassline, perfectly weighted interplay between lead and backing vocals and fruit-bowl fresh synth and guitar stabs. The Frankye Knuckles (sic) ‘Plant Mix’ on side B is a dub edit that stretches and airs everything out, doubling down on that bassline.

The release notes over on Dark Entries reveal that the remix came about after Knuckles’ friend Larry Levan made it a hit at the Paradise Garage, playing the instrumental repeatedly.

The tracks were remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley CA and the record comes in a new sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh with extended notes, lyrics and photos.

Jago I’m Going To Go is reissued by Dark Entries and ships on 21 August.
