Sadiq Khan teases new initiative to protect cultural institutions

The London mayor has outlined the ‘agent of change’ principle that will be put in place to protect longstanding centres of arts and nightlife from the interests of developers

Sadiq Kahn has begun to formulate the promised new legislation that will protect London’s cultural spaces and institutions, including clubs and the pillars of the capital’s nightlife.

The new rules are based around the ‘agent of change’ principle which essentially is the notion that when the circumstances around a club or venue change, the person or group responsible for that change in circumstance must bear the cost of minimizing the effect of that change.

In a Facebook post, Khan has cited the example of the original Cruzon Cinema in Mayfair as an example. The impact on cases like the widely publicised closure of fabric would be huge.
