Shirley Collins and This Is Not This Heat top Safe As Milk line-up

The brand new festival, cooked up by the teams behind TUSK and alt.vinyl, have released the first names on their bill. The event takes place in Prestatyn, North Wales in April next year

Safe AS Milk join the ever growing list of festivals programmed with real diversity in mind. By the initial line-up we can assume they’ve circumvented the pitfalls of the regular festival suspects. Shirley Collins rarely plays live but the English Folk legend will grace Prestatyn following the upcoming release of her first album in 38 years, while a reformation of This Heat – called This Is Not This Heat with original members plus the likes of Thurston Moore & Alexis Taylor – will also play.

Along with Collins and This Is Not This Heat, the bill includes the whirlwind that is OOIOO led by Yoshimi W-Pe, who’s high octane sound defies definition; Syrian dabke vocalist and Four Tet collaborator Omar Souleyman, plus the eyeball clad avant-garde extremists The Residents.

Add to that Hieroglyphic Being, Islam Chipsy & EEK, Dopplereffekt, Horse Lords, Grouper and Nurse With Wound, and something pretty exciting is taking place. Not to mention all of the promised extra-musical stuff going on with film screenings, screen print exhibitions and record shop pop-ups all promised along with more acts tba.

Safe As Milk takes place 21 – 23 April 2017 with initial tickets on sale 31 October starting at £140. Find more information about the festival here.
