The Evening Standard reviews Skepta, mistakes reloads for technical difficulties

Last Friday saw Skepta make a triumphant return to North London with a sold-out gig at Alexandra Palace.

By all accounts the show was a rowdy one, with DJ Maximum pulling up tracks as Skepta brought out a procession of special guests including JME, Giggs, and Novelist. Unfortunately, the performance didn’t quite land for everyone.

As pointed out by Giggs, the Evening Standard mistook DJ Maximum’s multiple pull-ups for technical issues, reporting that “not everything went to plan: songs were restarted and… the audience sloped home unsatisfied.”

Update: The Evening Standard have apologised for the misunderstanding. Added to the bottom of the review, the statement reads, “The Standard apologises for an error in the original version of this review, which has since been edited for clarity. The author acknowledges it should have read ‘reload’ rather than ‘restart’ and shouldn’t have suggested technical malfunction.”
