Listen to David Attenborough play music he’s recorded from across the world

In a special broadcast aired on BBC Radio 3 on Christmas Day, David Attenborough played a collection of music he’s amassed through travelling the world.

Attenborough has been collecting sounds from across the world for years, starting with his earliest projects for the BBC. In this special 48-minute show, the wildlife broadcaster shares the stories behind the sounds and plays a diverse range of songs and field recordings.

The recordings include Sierra Leone xylophone pieces, gamelan music in Java and clippings of aboriginal didgeridoo players. There’s also some particularly tranquil harp music hailing from Paraguay.

Before the broadcast, Attenborough said of the show, “I’m delighted that the music I recorded, all over the world, half a century ago, is coming to light at last”.

The show first aired at 6:45PM on Christmas Day. Listen to it in full via BBC iPlayer here.
