Armin Van Buuren to remove U R branding following accusations of plagiarism

The branding will be changed to ‘Universal Religion’

This weekend, trance producer Armin Van Buuren was accused of stealing the name and logo of his Hï Ibiza residency – U R With Armin Van Buuren – from techno collective Underground Resistance. The collective took to Facebook to spotlight the similarities between their branding and Van Buuren’s, saying, “Is there no shame? What happened to electronic creativity?” The label’s manager, Cornelius Harris, said it was “lazy and irresponsible of the artist and promoter”.

In response to the accusations of plagiarism, a spokesperson initially told RA that they had decided to “keep both the logo and the name as they were”.

However, their statements have remained inconsistent to various news outlets and they’ve now issued a new statement clarifying that “all logos/flyers will be changed ASAP”. The branding “will only communicate the full name of the concept: Universal Religion”.

Van Buuren has also offered an explanation: “Originally, UR – the name of the new event through which I’ll perform in Ibiza every week – is derived from Universal Religion, an older but nonetheless well-known Armin van Buuren concept. Its symbol, which consists of a custom-made font and frame, was designed to conform with the Armin van Buuren brand.”

U R with Armin Van Buuren will take place every Wednesday for 13 weeks at Hï Ibiza, formerly known as Space.
