Skepta announced as Songwriter of the Year by Ivor Novello Awards

The grime MC will be taking home two prestigious awards

It’s been announced on Twitter today (18 May) that Skepta is this year’s recipient of the Ivor Novello’s Songwriter of the Year award. The award is given to those who’ve produced “an outstanding body of work released during the award year”. He’ll also be taking home the Best Contemporary Song award with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme for the track MAN.

The list of artists who’ve previously won Songwriter of the Year includes Adele, Ed Sheeran, Tom Odell and Calvin Harris. The first artist to receive the award was Biddu in 1977.

Other recipients of this year’s announcements are Dario Marianelli for Best Original Film Score and Michael Kiwanuka for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. See the full list of winners here and check out the Twitter announcements for Skepta below.
