Throwing Shade details her experience of sexism at French festival

“I literally had the worst technical experience so far in my DJ career”

Via her Facebook page today (26 May), London DJ, producer and NTS radio show host Throwing Shade detailed her experience of sexism on the stage. Whilst DJing at a “big festival in France” there were problems with the sound. The artist had been confirmed for a three-hour set at the Lyon festival Nuits Sonores, which took place on 25 May. She goes on to explain how the “incompetent” sound guys refused to fix the situation.

She says, “All the sound was cutting out and they weren’t doing anything about that. I had to just stop the music and use extreme measures in the middle and shout at them.” When Jamie 3:26 came on stage to play the following set, the attitude from the sound team changed. She described their approach to work as: “All hands on deck, sorted out all the problems straight away.”

She ends her video with, “And there’s only one conclusion I can reach. And it’s ’cause I’m a female and he’s a male. And it’s bullshit.”
