BBC announce live Glastonbury broadcast

Glastonbury Festival

BBC Two will devote Friday night to Radiohead

Glastonbury have announced that they’ll broadcast “30 hours of TV coverage” this year across BBC Two and BBC Four.

Extending beyond TV, there’ll be radio coverage from Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, 6 Music and, for the first time, Radio 3. As for the internet, 120 acts spanning six stages will stream online in HD quality. The aim is to cover both headliners and emerging artists.

A roster of hosts have been announced for TV and radio, including Tom Ravenscroft, Lauren Laverne, Alice Levine and Steve Lamacq amongst others. Annie Mac will be kickstarting the radio coverage on Thursday evening.

In 1997, BBC Two hosted a live broadcast for the first time, showcasing Radiohead’s set at the Pyramid Stage. 20 years later, the channel will broadcast the band again, and dedicate Friday evening to the alt-rock outfit.

Bob Shennan, Director BBC Radio & Music, said, “Glastonbury on the BBC has become the pop music highlight of the British summer. BBC Music is thrilled to be offering music lovers so many ways to experience the unique atmosphere of the world’s most famous music festival – at home or on the move.”
