The National release Casey Reas-directed video for Guilty Party

The National have released the second single, entitled Guilty Party, from their forthcoming album Sleep Well Beast. The single follows up from the Brooklyn bands lead single, The System Dreams In Total Darkness. Accompanying the release is a new video directed by conceptual and procedural artist Casey Reas, whose main medium is software. His work has been displayed in numerous museums and galleries, including the V&A.

According to Consequence of Sound, Reas has described the new visual as “a dream about memory and the degradation of memory.”

“It’s about distance in time and space,” he explains. “Time moves forward, but then backward as memory. The image of the two-faced Roman god Janus, who can look into the past and future, is the core visual language.”

Sleep Well Beast will arrive on 8 September via 4AD. Watch the video in the player above, and head here for more info on the upcoming album and tour dates.
