Pussy Riot announce autobiographical theatre piece

Inside Pussy Riot will run for six weeks at London’s Saatchi Gallery

The Russian protest group have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their immersive theatre piece entitled Inside Pussy Riot. Created by Les Enfants Terribles, the piece will run for six weeks at the Saatchi Gallery and tell the story of the group’s arrest to their time in a Russian jail.

According to the statement on their KickstarterPussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova explained, “This wild theatrical experience will allow the audience to become a participant, experiencing exactly what Pussy Riot went through during our imprisonment – from the original Church performance, to the court trial and prison cells. We’re going to recreate Russian courtrooms, a real Russian labour colony, solitary confinement cells, priests who shout about banning abortions and many more absurd, but real-life things that exist in Russia today.”

“All the money raised will be spent on renting the space, the set design, employing actors and staff for the show’s 6-week run and making those rooms in London look exactly like solitary confinement cells in the Russian prison I did my time in.”

The group will be performing in the UK later this year, with shows confirmed for London’s Islington Assembly Hall on 17 November and Brighton’s The Haunt on 19 November. You can find more info and buy tickets here.
