Björk drops first single from new “Tinder album”, ‘The Gate’

The as-yet-untitled album will be released in November

The Icelandic star has released the first track from her new forthcoming album. The track, entitled The Gate, has been made available on streaming platforms. The release arrives sooner than expected as last week, the artist announced that the single would be available digitally from 18 September, with a vinyl to follow on 22 September via One Little Indian Records.

On the single, she said, “The Gate is essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way. Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. It’s about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.”

An accompanying film – made in conjunction with Andrew Thomas Huang, Alessandro Michele and James Merry – will be screening at London’s The Store Studios on 16 and 17 September, from 10am to 6pm (BST). Hosted by Nowness, the film will be open to the public and admission will be free.

Though a specific release date has not yet been revealed for her upcoming album, it will allegedly be released in November. “This is like my Tinder album,” she told Dazed. “It’s about that search (for utopia) – and about being in love. Spending time with a person you enjoy is when the dream becomes real.”
