Hyperdub to release collection of pioneering Japanese video game music

Diggin In The Carts will be released digitally on 17 November with a vinyl to follow

Hyperdub have announced a compilation of rare Japanese video game music, entitled Diggin In The Carts. It’s due for a digital release on 17 November, with a vinyl to follow on 16 February.

The release is intended to build upon a Red Bull Music Academy documentary of the same name, which follows leading composers behind the globally influential genre of music. Researched and curated by Tokyo-based music historian and DJ Nick Dwyer and Hyperdub label boss Kode9, the collection will delve into rare archives of the chip era of video game music in Japan.

Furthermore, there’ll be a tour using visuals by animator Kōji Morimoto. Yuzo Koshiro, a composer of the 16-bit age, will be performing, along with composer Motohiro Kawashima. A performance has been scheduled for fabric on 30 November. Head here for more info and tickets.
