Watch the colourful cartoon video for funk god Bootsy Collins’ Ladies Nite featuring MC Eiht

We’re excited to be premiering a cut from the new record by pioneering funk legend Bootsy Collins.

Ladies Nite is vintage Bootsy. Neon-lit G-funk synths, hydraulic-bounce basslines and s charmingly old-school melody which matches the visual. With a rich history in the cosmos of funk, Collins’ past spent playing with George Clinton and James Brown has given him an unshakable spot at the top table.

The track features a guest spot from MC Eiht – the legendary Compton MC whose career saw a resurgence back in 2012 when he featured on Kendrick Lamar’s seminal sophomore studio album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. There’s also a feature from the BlvckSeeds creative collective.

Collins’ upcoming LP World Wide Funk drops on 27 October via Mascot Records and it features Kali Uchis, Chuck D and Big Daddy Kane. Discussing the record in a press release, Bootsy said it was “about teaching people how to funk for themselves so they can bring some funk to get some. We bring them hope like dope, so not one Funkateer chokes. Unity in the community is a part of this plan and when the Mothership lands there’s nothing but helping hands.”

Aside from continuing to bring the world their dosage of funk, Bootsy and his wife oversee the Bootsy Collins Foundation, a non-profit organisation focused on raising the self-esteem of bullied girls, providing dental care for under-privileged communities and bringing musical instruments to disadvantaged kids.
