Kelela covers Sade in emotional performance of Like A Tattoo

The RnB artist covered the 1992 song during her Radio 1 Piano Session

Last night (11 October), Kelela gave two stripped down performances for Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 show Piano Sessions. Performing her new track Waitin from her debut album Take Me Apart, she also covered Sade’s Like A Tattoo. The emotional song talks of a past lover, dreams and youth, and is taken from Sade’s fourth studio album, Love Deluxe.

Kelela’s Take Me Apart was released last week on 6 October. From her debut, she’s dropped a visual for the lead single LMK, directed by Björk collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang.

Recently, she penned a personal essay on race, tokenism and visibility in the music industry for RAFurthermore, she celebrated the one-year anniversary of Solange’s album A Seat At The Table on a Radio 1Xtra special, during which she said, “When I think about Solange’s record, A Seat At The Table, I am sort of brought back to the first time she played me the songs. I was in full tears. I am in full tears right now. I remember feeling a sense of freedom, just feeling better, like we finally had anthems that come from a tender place.”
