Moonlight director Barry Jenkins releases album of Grizzly Bear reworks

He’s remixed the albums Veckatimest and Painted Ruins

Barry Jenkins has released a new album of ‘chopnotslop’ remixes, featuring reworks of Grizzly Bear’s 2009 album Veckatimest and their latest release, Painted Ruins. Entitled Purple Veckitamest / Painted Ruins (ChoppedNotSlopped), Jenkins has collaborated with DJ Candlestick, of OG Ron C & the Chopstars, for the album.

Delighted by the release, Grizzly Bear tweeted, “Can’t believe the director of my favorite movie last year “Moonlight” did a full on chopnotslop remix of both Veck and Painted Ruins!!!”, to which Jenkins replied, “yr music means the world to me” and tweeted praise to DJ Candlestick.

Earlier this year, the Moonlight director announced his plans to direct an adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel If Beale Street Could Talk for Annapurna Pictures. Recently, DJ Candlestick released the chopped and screwed version of SZA’s debut Ctrl.
