Carhartt’s new film revisits the rugged landscapes of Asia and discovers an urban revolution

Ten years back a skate team set out to the heart of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to seek out a skate park they’d only heard whispers of. When they arrived, they were told the construction had been razed to the ground – but that was only the beginning of an adventure so exciting that it’s been picked up ten years later.

Thanks to a thriving coal, copper, rare metal, and uranium industry, Mongolia has become one of the quickest growing countries in the world. When the team arrived back in Ulaanbaatar last year, they realised they were witnessing something of an urban revolution – one that has brought both anarchic growth and profound societal shifts.

This journey, supported by Carhartt and featuring some of the best filmmaking, skating and photography talent working in the world today, has born both a beautiful film, Out of Steppe, and book, From Dirt to Dust.

Check out some of the stunning shots captured for the project above, and check out a poster for a Bristol-based event at The Island on 16 December that will screen Out of Steppe and showcase some of the stunning images from From Dirt to Dust. See the Facebook event here.
