Each week we round-up the best (and worst) new music videos out there

With the advent of high-speed internet, we’re living in a bit of a golden age for the music video – but we’re also reaching a point where you see at least one of the bloody things every time you open your eyes.

The question is, how do you know which videos are stone cold classics and which are just dust in the wind of the World Wide Web?

As usual, we’re here to help! We’ve rounded up the most notable clips from the last seven days from the far-flung recesses of the internet.

Check them out after the drop.

Jamie xx - Gosh

Directed by Roman Gavras

When I first heard that Jamie xx had gone and done an extra video for Gosh I found myself in awe of his audacity. Claiming song of the summer twice in a row is one thing but to attempt to do the do the double with the same song is truly gutsy.

The video, as it turns out, is just incredible. The clip comes across as a mood board inspired by a Hunger Games styled dystopia, the bikelife hashtag and whatever else is going on in director Roman Gavras bizarre imagination. It’s also set in a Chinese city that was made to look exactly like Paris. Yes, that’s an actual thing. Truly insane and totally brilliant.

Gucci Mane - First Day Out Tha Feds

Directed by Gabriel Hart

Gucci Mane and Gucci Mane and Gucci Mane and Gucci Mane are flipping those clone rumours…

Death Grips - Giving Bad People Good Ideas

Directed by Death Grips

Like Jamie xx’s Gosh clip Death Grips Giving Bad People Good Ideas already had a music video.

It’s basically just a pair of hands playing with a shoe for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. I can’t really say if this is good or not because I’m not Brian flipping Sewell am I? It’s almost definitely good mind.

Courtney Barnett - Elevator Operator

Directed by Sunny Leunig

Of course Courtney Barnett works in a magical elevator that transcends space and time, picks up rockstars like Sleater-Kinney and Wilco and ends up on the roof of one of Melbourne’s tallest buildings.

Of course she does.

Father - Big Emblem Benz

Directed by Ramez Sylian

Awful Records dream team Father and Abra are a pair of Natural Born Killers in this grindhouse influenced clip for Father’s gritty, Milkshake referencing cut Big Emblem Benz.

Clams Casino - Ghost in a Kiss ft. Samuel T. Herring

Directed by Grant Singer

Clams Casino has enlisted a string of guest vocalists for his latest album and we’re always more than pleased to hear Future Islands frontman Samuel T. Herring’s distinctive croon.

The video sets a sombre tone with Herring trapped in a Memento-esque loop of misery and confusion. Gutted for him then.
