Summer’s nearly out.

Soundtrack that final weekend with five new projects ranging from dance-rock heroes to Mancunian RnB newcomers.

01

American Dream

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM

Don’t call it a comeback. LCD Soundsystem have opened the blinds and unveiled American Dream – a triumphant journey through dread and euphoria all told through Murphy’s inimitable gaze. Read Crack’s full review here.

02

IAMDDB

Hoodrich Vol. 3

Manchester’s IAMDDB completed her Hoodrich tape series with this concise and addictive suite of razor-sharp RnB. As stylish as the artwork suggests, IAMDDB flits between agile rap flows and sleek melodies with ease. Call your nan and tell her you’ve found the next big thing.

03

Bicep

Bicep

After years spent blogging, playing, curating and – erm – flexing, Bicep have loaded up a cauldron with all the sounds they’ve absorbed and produced this precise exploration of UK club sounds and more peripheral, kaleidoscopic tropes. This is an album where new shades and details emerge on every listen. They also produced a mammoth five-hour playlist of tracks which inspired the album for us. Listen to that here.

04

Uhamiaji

Msafiri Zawose

The ever-reliable Soundway Records present this new record from Msafiri Zawose, one of the biggest figures in gogo music. Here, Zawose takes blueprints from his native Tanzania but imbues the tracks with a sense of borderless experimentation – streaks of blissful dub and heyday Balearic can all be unpicked from the rich, vivid tapestry.

05

In Gods Body

Kojey Radical

Poet and rapper Kojey Radical continues his blend of histrionic lyricism and cinematic production with this full-length project In Gods Body. Glued together by a spoken interlude voiced by Chewing Gum star Michaela Coel, the project is a compelling narrative-led experience which showcases the depth and detail of his creative perspective.
