Cass.

This week’s Crack Mix comes courtesy of Cass. Hailing from Osnabrück in the North-West of Germany, Cass.- real name Niklas Rehme-Schlüter- drew acclaim in 2013 for his LP Loops and Farewell Sketches, enlisting live instrumentation and field recordings for an affecting and promising debut.

Having followed up Loops with a second album for Japanese label Home Normal, Cass. this year released a collaboration with Wolf Müller- better known as Jan Schulte- blending his ambient palette with balearic cues and heady hand percussion. This month sees Cass. present Youth Sessions, a third long-player which layers delicate vocal snatches and kicks above and below his signature soundscapes.

As you might expect, the mix is a kicked-back affair, but not less engrossing for it, with tracks from Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, How To Dress Well and Grouper blending into an atmospheric trip through Rehme-Schlüter’s sonic influences. Headphones recommended.

Youth Sessions is released in early December via Emotional Response
