Here we are again. Welcome back to Staying In, your overthrown local MP of whopping great content for the weekend which awaits you.

Traditionally, this is the weekend where the Christmas misbehaviour begins. For every night spent xeroxing your privates and spilling WKD down your best shirt at the office Christmas party, there’s a morning after. Why not spend it with anecdotes about the purple one? Expert advice from a super-hit producer? Celebrating the legacy of a disco pioneer? Stay clean. Stay safe. Stay rollicking. Stay in.

Crack Mix 128: Cass.

Crack Magazine

Chilled, smooth and totally captivating – German selector and producer Cass. turned in this ambient-leaning offering for our mix series this week and we’re still obsessed with it. Perfectly suited to ease you out of the party without making it feel like a lifetime ago.

Mike WiLL Made-It Lecture (Montréal 2016)

Red Bull Music Academy

The RBMA lectures always offer an enlightening and informative glimpse into the methods and techniques of music’s finest pioneers from the modern day and years gone by. Shared this week from their Montréal season earlier in the year, hip-hop super producer Mike WiLL Made-It sits down for a two-hour conversation covering his first encounter with Gucci Mane, the unique stylings of Magic City, collaborating with Miley and working on Bey’s Formation (which happens to do well in our Tracks of 2016 list).

Prince’s Closest Friends Share Their Best Prince Stories

GQ

Of all the travesties we were subjected to in this hellish year, the passing of The Purple One is among the saddest. Here, GQ collect stories from his friends about their memories with the elusive artist. Shout out to Gwen Stefani. When she met Prince for the first time he was dressed in a velour tracksuit (purple obv) with heels and makeup. Live forever, rest in Purple. Read the stories here.

Chapter 13: Fonzworth Bentley

Rich Friend: The Elevated Conversation

On Rich Friend: The Elevated Conversation, self-confessed pop culture nerds Mark Anthony Green and Matthew Trammell unpick trends in style, music, film, fashion and everything in between. It’s one of our favourite new podcasts of the year. Scrolling through the whole of their SoundCloud would be an extremely way to spend an afternoon. This week they’ve spoken to Fonzworth Bentley – general gentleman of etiquette and former personal valet to Diddy. It’s a seriously elevated conversation.

Unsung: Frankie Knuckles and The Roots of House Music

TV One

While you could make an entire series of documentaries about the impact, legacy and all-round importance of Frankie Knuckles, this 40-minute effort does a good job of capturing the life and works of President Obama’s favourite DJ (seriously). From Paradise Garage to the world.

Hackney vs Brixton: a conversation between Dean Blunt and GAIKA

Crack Magazine

We unveiled our final issue of the year this week and the cover story is one we’re particularly proud of. Read the transcript of an unmoderated conversation between Dean Blunt and GAIKA – two of the year’s most subversive and exciting British artists. Touching on WWE, gentrification and hyper-masculinity – this is an exchange unlike any other you’ll be able to eavesdrop on.

King Geedorah Snake Charmer Mix

Solid Steel Radio

King Geedorah, better known as MF DOOM delivers this serpent-baiting mix of unheard material from upcoming projects as well as classic choices (word to Ghostface). We can’t condone the choice of Frankie Sinatra by The Avalanches but – other than that – it works as a neat pin-drop for his tastes and his outlook. According to Pitchfork, three tracks are taken from a project DOOM has curated: Paul Barman’s RE: (No Subject), Fresh Cutz by Hassan Chop and Shake Charmer Freestyle by Kurious Jorge.

Fragile: Visual Album

Wolfgang Tillmans

Directed and shot by Wolfgang Tillmans, this visual album plays as a precursor to his upcoming EP. Featuring activist and model Hari Nef and a host of other beautiful and forward-facing creatives (including Tillmans himself), the cast dance and improvise against Tillmans’ ‘post Brexit/pre Trump’-inspired music.
