Leeds has a good claim to fostering one of the best punk scenes in the world right now

Autobahn sprung from the loins of the city just over a year ago and have been making catchy goth-inflected punk ever since. Their energy is reminiscent of fellow Leeds locals Eagulls and they’ve got a morbid aesthetic that rings out through their tunes. In short, they’re fucking excellent. The last thing we’d want is for all of their members to die simultaneously somehow all listening to different songs.

Still, when we asked them for a list and they responded with the suitably glum “top six songs to die to” we just had to oblige. Partly because we thought it was funny, and partly because they look like they could definitely have us.

Without any further ado, here’s Autobahn’s top six songs to die to.

David Bowie - Soul Love

Chosen by Liam Hilton (drums)

I want Bowie soul love as my song to die to. It’s a beautiful song, be a nice one to just sit back and fade out too, it’s an easy way out.

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings

Chosen by Craig Johnson (vocals)

Fall into the abyss…

Primal Scream - Movin on Up

Chosen by Craig Johnson (vocals)

In contrast to Adagio for Strings this makes you rocket high. This or Loaded would work.

Pink Floyd - Great Gig in the Sky

Chosen by Gavin Cobb (guitar)

“Perfectly themed song to end on.” – Gavin Cobb
“Prog rock shit that makes me want to die.” – Craig Johnson

Blur - The Universal

Chosen by Daniel Sleight (bass)

Mainly for that perfect melody going around and around on my death bed. Until the last ‘let them go’.

Suede - So Young

Chosen by Michael Pedel (guitar)

Because we’re young, because we’re gone…

Autobahn’s latest album Dissemble is out now via Cargo Records

Catch them live on 1 December at London’s Sebright Arms
