The 12 Best Musicians to Follow on Twitter

The very best of musicians’ thoughts pouring out of their heads and onto the internet

Remember when information was regulated? When the only time you’d hear from your fave musicians would be if you chose to pop Gonzo on, or cracked open a music magazine?

Those days are so, so over my friend.  Now, there are wonderful things like Twitter that have come to bend open the locks on your faves’ tiny mind. Their consciousnesses are spilt out for all to see, in real time.

What a time to be alive.

Here are our shouts on who to follow from the magical world of music Twitter.

Hudson Mohawke

Hudmo is a certified OG Twitter nutter. If he’s not starting feuds with rival Twitter nutter Zomby or singing the praises of dim and distant trance rooted music genres then he’s cementing his status as everyone’s Dad.

For some reason.

Wiley

Wiley‘s had a bit of a mare on Twitter in the past, most notably when his unthinking manager sent him to play the biggest festival on the planet, Glastonbury, in 2013. And when he was denied entry to Toronto. And when he played 15 minutes for £15k at a non profit festival. Basically, just wait till Wiley kicks off next and get the popcorn out. “Fucking reptillions”, indeed.

St Vincent

Annie Clark (aka St Vincent)’s Twitter feed is peppered with dark humour, retweets of St Vincent tattoos (there’s loads), and letting people know she’s okay when she’s fallen off a 300lb speaker onstage.

Ezra Koenig

Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig is so KOOKY, you guys. He also chats social justice on his feed to be fair – anything from Caitlyn Jenner to the intersection between drought and bad coffee.

Lil B

“GOD BLESS LIL B” say The BasedGod’s 1.1m Twitter followers. Lil B has a cult following that revolves around his super sensitive, super based lifestyle.

His tweets can range from the inspirational to the downright bizarre and back again. If nothing else, he’s taught us that we must love ourselves and each other and that’s exactly why we love Lil B.

Madonna

Madonna’s Twitter timeline is kind of like a car crash – you cannot look away from all the throwback photos with emoji-laden captions, the terrible ‘Rebel Heart’ promotional campaign, and the thousands of ‘MOM!!!’, ‘slay’ and ‘queeeeen’ comments she gets on ALL of her tweets. It’s a phenomenon.

Cher

Cher is an absolute dream on Twitter. She shares an affinity for emojis with Madonna, but as you can see, she’s not a massive fan. When she’s not being everyone’s loopy aunt on Twitter, she’s standing up against the ills of the world including the Confederate flag, Seaworld, and sometimes both at the same time.

JME

JME’s Twitter game is up in the air, brilliantly observational and always on point. As if that wasn’t enough on its own his injection of Lewisham swag shines through in every ting, fam and ‘llow elevating his feed to the top of a very large pile.

His recent rolling review of Jurassic World, for example, was a pretty much perfect example of JME’s unbridled, ADHD Tweet majesty.

Zomby

Being a loose cannon, subverting reality, offending everyone. It’s all in a days work for Zomby. Everyone’s favourite masked DJ straddles the line between comedy genius and actual insane person with the greatest of ease.

He’ll make you cringe, he’ll make you laugh, he’ll make you think all in the space of fifteen minutes. The only question is, when does he have time to actually make all those bangers? Well…

50 Cent

2010 Fiddy Cent was a total outrageous bastard on Twitter, and we’re still following him in case he has another string of totally un-PC opinions to share with his 7.6m followers.

Missy Elliot

Feeling shit? Like you’ll never reach your dreams? Like you’ll never love again? Sit down with Missy and she’ll sort you right out mate.

Azealia Banks

Queen of Twitter beef, Azealia, is also partial to a rant or ten on Twitter. As she says herself, “The Kuntbrigade loves a good roast. And a good cup of tea“.

Fair.
