Samo DJ is an instrumental figure within Stockholm’s tight-knit underground scene, where he’s known as much for his collaborations with underground heroes like Baba Stilz, MaxxxBass and Sling as he is for his warped and vital DJ sets.
He has a track record too – he co-founded the Born Free record label alongside Sling way back in 2011. The label combines an increasingly broad purview – their most recent release came via tipped Japanese producer Powder – with a defined aesthetic; make no mistake, the label’s line in blunted, DIY house and techno out-weirds your average lo-fi house chancer at every possible turn.
The same aesthetic runs through Samo DJ’s own productions, with outings on L.I.E.S, The Trilogy Tapes and Public Possession shoring up his vision. However, it’s those DJ sets that are causing the most havoc right now, and the buzz is definitely building (check his Dekmantel x Boiler Room set if you don’t believe). Better yet, cue up the mix he’s created for us. Trust, it’s a keeper.
Samo DJ plays at AKA at Patterns in Brighton on Friday 3 February
