Details and first acts announced for Final Frontier NYE

The team behind the ambitious New Year’s event have rolled out further clues about the party along with their first wave of artists.

Taking place across the entirety of the labyrinthine Bridewell complex- which encompasses a dilapidated courthouse complete with adjoining prison cells, a steep-walled courtyard, and an old fire station- the Final Frontier is a joint venture some of Bristol’s most prolific crews including Idle Hands, Shapes, Rough Draft, Blowpop, Wonkavision and Banoffee Pies.

Whilst previous releases have hinted only at the theme of the night- a “gritty, cosmos-sized sandbox of sound, light, love, and weird science”- further details have now been revealed by the consortium behind the event. The Final Frontier team are promising to transform the grimy concrete reaches of Bridewell into a full-blown spectacle replete with sci-fi weirdness, and have enlisted some big-name set designers whose resumes include the likes of Boomtown and Shangri-la to do so.

Distractions include a hidden cocktail bar, Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets, and a cuustom-built drum machine controlled by the movement of the crowd. Oh, and Blade Runner-themed laserquest.

Though the focus of the event is on the experiential aspects of the night, the lineup isn’t too bad either: Midland, Kowton & Peverelist, Ostgut Ton bossman Nick Höppner, and Kahn & Neek will all be in attendance, with a bumper crop of special guests still to be announced.
