Sacrum Profanum festival expands 2016 lineup

The Polish festival’s latest edition will be a sweeping showcase for cutting edge visual arts, experimental music and avant garde ideas

Sacrum Profanum festival brings the worlds of avant garde music and cutting edge art together for a programme of events from 1 – 8 October at various venues in Krakow, Poland. As final additions to the already eclectic lineup they have announced a concert from composer, visual and audio artist Anna Zaradny who will perform alongside Robert Piotrowicz and Jérôme Noetinger on Friday 7 October at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre.

On Saturday 8 October they will also present Opera About Poland, a new performance featuring music by Artur Zagajewski and illustrated fragments of documentaries by Piotr Stasik. The show will use fragments of film and radio broadcasts and recitations mixed live on stage. A press release from the festival describes the opera as “A broad range of sound impressions and film fragments bathed in dark, predatory music, building a critical at times and affectionate image of contemporary Poland.”

Elsewhere on the lineup you’ll find performances from a range of contemporary avant-garde and classical artists including John Zorn, Nico Muhly and Stephen Drury as well as exhibitions and more across the city.
