Fashion designer and DJ Virgil Abloh has died

Influential fashion designer and DJ Virgil Abloh has died aged 41, Louis Vuitton have confirmed.

LVMH, the company which owns the fashion brand, said on Sunday (28 November) that Abloh had passed away after several years’ private struggle with cancer. “LVMH, Louis Vuitton and Off White are devastated to announce the passing of Virgil Abloh, on Sunday, November 28th, of cancer, which he had been battling privately for several years,” the statement reads. Abloh was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton.

The statement on Abloh’s page reads, “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues.”

The designer was known for merging fashion with pop culture and music, and his debut runway show for Louis Vuitton in 2018 featured former Crack Magazine cover stars Playboi Carti, Dev Hynes and Steve Lacy, alongside Theophilus London, Kid Cudi, Bakar and more. This year, he released a track featuring serpentwithfeet, entitled Delicate Limbs.
