GENERATOR HOSTEL BERLIN MITTE OPENING PARTY w/ MODULAR RECORDS

October 17th | Generator Berlin Mitte, Berlin

What better than a weekend trip to the Mecca of donner meat? Following our visit to the opening of their Venice establishment, Crack was very excited to be invited to the German capital by our friends at Generator Hostels. This Thursday saw the launch of their latest in an ever-expanding selection of urban, design-led locations. The Generator Hostel, Berlin Mitte sits on Oranienburger Strasse right in the centre of the city; a fine setting for wandering around the sights as well as conveniently linked to all the important night spots.

We arrive into the wood panelled lobby/café and our interaction with the slightly aloof girl on the door is soundtracked by Phoenix. So far, so Berlin. The lift that takes us up to our room features a screen pooling together a variety of social media activity relating to the hostel, and we’re led out into what is – and we’re deadly serious – the best smelling corridor we’ve ever experienced. After a quick shower it’s off to a fantastic dinner courtesy of Katz Orange and the brains at The Contemporary Food Lab, before we’re whisked back to the hostel for the launch party, which is in full swing upon our arrival.

Taking care of things on the ground floor with sets from Roland Tings, Cecile & Rekleksie and personal favourite DJ Kaos were the Modular Records crew, who throw down electronic, Italo and disco cuts in equal measure. The label’s sound, home to Tame Impala, Cut Copy et al, feels at home in the main bar of this stylish hostel which buzzes with young, fashionable Berliners. Even Foals drop in for a swift one after their set at Huxley’s. Downstairs in the basement, aside from the selection of high-end alcohol samples, we’re greeted with a gallery of live graffiti and deep house in the garage-turned-party bunker. Despite the scheduled curfew of 2am the party carries on long after we turn in for the night. Upon arrival back at our room we’re treated to a morning-after recovery kit complete with aspirin, V Water and fizzy vitamin C. Perfect.

Generator hostels are set to pop up in Rome and Paris within the next year so we’ll see you at the next one, yeah?
