GENERATOR VENICE LAUNCH W/ KITSUNE

As the water taxi cantered from side to side of Venice’s central waterway, the main passenger route for cruise ships and bigger boats to navigate through Europe’s most unique city, you could see our destination approaching. Not because of any specific landmark or pinpoint that was guiding our rather rickety vessel into port, but because we could see the mass of ultra visible neon lights pulsating out of the top two floors that housed the new Generator Venice Hostel that opened last week on the Giudecca island.

Having commandeered the services of French party starters Kitsune to provide the musical palette, the colourful beams that emanated from the windows were reflective of the electro brand that has been responsible for breaking the careers of many young contemporary musicians.

This, the hostel chain’s seventh city of operation have eschewed tampering with the local architectural style in favour of retaining the rustic charm and worn look that make so many of the Venetian building so alluring. This is, however, until the interior reveals a renovation of stunning proportion, all stonework, wooden beams, exposed metalwork and a selection of quite stunning furniture items, including a downstairs bed! Marrying a rich, heady interior that doesn’t compensate on quality, the bar is oozing with top shelf treats and tonight’s party offers plenty.

On arrival we settle into our dorm and investigate the uber modern three-storey building but are sucked outdoors by the hot air and the swathe of bodies that have amassed on the waterside drinking and conversing. The party is twofold; trendy Venetians who’ve arrived to check out what will surely become a popular tourist base and drinking spot in the city and invited guests who are consuming the rather weighty free booze with gusto.

On the inside, head honcho of Kitsune, Gildas, is laying down a crowd-pleasing selection of electro with popular R’n’b twists. Far from being a standard issue grab the free booze and fuck off affair, the dancefloor is in full swing with the Kitsune magic giving the party a debonair, yet rugged party feel that keeps bodies moving until the close with Milan local boy, His Majesty Andre, taking things more electronic as bodies became more entwined.

Generator hostels have gathered a reputation for locking in the young traveller into slightly better accommodation with a flair for fun, late nights and good music. Judging by the clientele we meet tonight their reputation is set to continue.
