Just Jack + Stamp the Wax: Let’s Take This Outside!

Coroner’s Court Car Park, Bristol | 7 June

It’s a day for the collectives as Bristol party pullers Just Jack join forces with the articulate music all-rounders at Stamp the Wax to host a daytime exploration of electronic music featuring Joy Orbison, Hunee, and Tama Sumo.

Thunderstorms were asserted as an inevitability by Tabloid newspapers and smug weather reporters, but as the 1pm start time approaches it’s all cloud and speckled sunshine (far from perfect, but a bonafied miracle nonetheless).

The conception, construction and smooth running of today’s event, and indeed many others like this, is made largely made possible by the tireless work from aforementioned music collectives and unpaid staff, some of whom are still studying for a degree fulltime. A strong sense of community is laced into many of these events, one which is lost in all too many cities.

Upon arrival it’s clear that any irrational premonitions of a sulking, rain soaked crowd shuffling in a car park couldn’t have been further from reality. The sun shines heavy on a stretched open air space filled with food stalls, bars and music.

The collaboration between Just Jack and Stamp the Wax has resulted in a heavyweight lineup of electronic music. From early afternoon to long into the night (including the mandatory, blurry eyed afterparty) countless variants of house and techno are visited and re-visited.

By night-fall the food stalls fall outside the crowds peripheral vision and the far corner of the venue fills with spilt pints and spraying confetti. The whole overall scene of today is a pleasing mesh of stereotypical summer frolics and serious musical showcases from a splattering of relevant talents from the electronic music scene. Both sides of this collaboration are still active in showcasing and promoting new and in demand music in the Bristol area and beyond. Look out for either one of their parties across this summer and the next.
