SHUT THE FRONT DOOR

Bad Papa’s Tiki Shack, Hockley, Nottingham | November 22nd

Shut the Front Door is a brand new clubnight to grace Nottingham. Set up by local students Kyle Parsley and Olly Martin, the night aims to bring the intimate atmosphere and vibe of a house party to a club night. Located at Bad Papa’s Tiki Shack, the bamboo-adorned cocktail bar offers a perfect setting to listen to house, disco and tropical sounds. With one hand clutching a Long Island iced tea and the other fist pumping, you’re immediately transported to considerably less chilly climes.

By as early as eleven, the queue was booming and the floor well-stocked. The venue hit capacity before midnight, with a clientele clearly drawn in by the night’s refreshing musical policy. With big-screen projections, badges instead of wristbands, the STFD logo adorning the club’s door in spray paint and a DJ booth in the midst of the revellers, the personal feel was distinctive, and the objective of merging a house party and club night clearly achieved.

With house music reigning supreme in recent times, and disco and tropical-leaning tastes ever creeping onto the radar, STFD couldn’t be more current. The night started off in pure house territory, the crowd lapping up STFD resident Eborall as he dropped cuts such as Disco Music (VIP) by Klic and I Loved You First by DJ Le Roi. We were then moved into the disco/tropical realms we’d been promised, with founder Kyle Parsley taking to the decks to treat the crowd to bangers such as Turn Around by Solidisco and Dan Hartman’s Relight My Fire. And with a closing set from fellow STFD resident Masix including Got Somebody by Moon Boots, the dancefloor was teeming ‘til the lights came up.

With careful organisation and an eye for detail, STFD managed to seamless avoid an array of launch-night pitfalls. The night not only supports local DJs but photographers, videographers, and even has a clothing line coming out in the New Year. With such a strong collective in tow, this is a party brand with serious legs.
