Pega Monstro are a pair of sisters from Portugal.
They first dropped on to our radar earlier this year with their first single, Braço De Ferro. It come out on London indie label Upset The Rhythm and sounded pretty much perfect when we first heard it and it’s just got better since.
When we asked them to choose a top 5 for us they picked out their top 5 cover versions from GG Allin’s take on a country classic to Nina Simone covering The Bee Gees and a super creepy rendition of Without You.
Take it away Pega Monstro.
Royal Trux - Faca Amolada
Original by Milton NascimentoThis song is by a brazilian artist called Milton Nascimento he has great records – Minas (1975) and Clube da Esquina (1972) – and this song Fé Cega, Faca Amolada has always been a part of our childhood. So when we heard this kickass Royal Trux version we were excited.
Also it’s funny to hear Neil’s and Jennifer’s portuguese accent.
GG Allin - Pick Me Up On Your Way Down
Written by Harlan HowardThis song I think it’s like an american country classic. The first time I heard was sung by Wanda Jackson (she’s great!!) but then a friend of mine showed me this and I liked this pussy version of GG Allin playing guitar instead of cutting himself and throwing shit around.
