Simple Things was nothing short of a blowout.

With a mega-packed line-up of world premieres, live audiovisual shows, local acts, rising bands, top-tier DJs, panels and some of the best selectors on the underground circuit right now, the Bristol festival yet again hosted another unforgettable year. Building upon its format, the festival’s line-up expanded with an opening ceremony headed up by ambient icon William Basinski. Over at the IMAX complex, Hyperdub boss Kode9 and Konx-om-Panx brought Kōji Morimoto’s animations to life, while Murlo soundtracked his latest album with stunning visuals.

Musical futurist Holly Herndon performed the AI-assisted album PROTO in Bristol for the first time, and object blue covered the ceiling of the dome-shaped Planetarium with visuals by Natalia Podgorska. Over on the night programme, at Lakota, the Stokes Croft space rumbled under the weight of bassy selections from the likes of Avalon Emerson, Laurel Halo with Parris, Jayda G, Dr. Rubinstein and more.

In short, Simple Things was a spectacular celebration of a broad range of genres. Each year, the annual celebration is a highlight on the Crack Magazine calendar so, of course, we documented the city-wide event. Check out a selection of our favourite moments below.
