Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Jess Smyth, better known as Biig Piig, is an LA-based Irish singer and rapper. Earlier this year, she shared her latest – and most accomplished – body of work: a six-track EP entitled The Sky is Bleeding. In the past, Smyth’s brand of low-key neo-soul, nonchalant rap and candid songwriting captured the emotions and uncertainty surrounding young adulthood, painting a picture of an artist still figuring life out. On The Sky is Bleeding, Smyth is more assured than ever as she fuses pop with slinky beats and more intimate lyrical content.

For her Selections playlist, Smyth spotlights a broad array of songs that she’s been listening to lately. “They’re all tracks that make me feel something strong and give me a sense of nostalgia,” she tells Crack Magazine. “What all of these songs have in common – although they’re all so different – is that they make me feel like I can escape into them. The emotion is so strong in all of them in their own way, and I love tracks that make me feel like I’m spiritually transporting. They all make me feel like that.”

Biig Piig plays at Wild Paths Festival, 14-17 October 2021
