“Our hope is to inspire discussion in an inviting and culturally contemporary context.”

Yasseen Faik is a London based designer with both Iraqi and Syrian heritage and a former member of Crack Magazine’s design team. On 2 June, Yasseen will unveil For Iraq & Syria – exhibiting the results of a collaborative poster project he has led partnered with Grey Jam Press.

Bringing together a cast of 22 designers and studios, Faik put forward a simple brief: “To create bold yet simplistic posters in response to the current situations in Iraq and Syria, using only two colours. Whether featuring typography or illustration – literal or abstract – the imperative was to be creative and meaningful.”

There will be a limited run of 30 editions available of each print for purchase – all hand pulled onto GF Smith, ice white 270gsm paper. 100% of profits raised will go to Salam LADC, an organisation which provides food, aid and education to displaced Syrians and Iraqis at a flexible, non-bureaucratic level.

Artists and studios who have contributed to the exhibition include Gaurab Thakali, London studio Our Place and former Boiler Room art director Mason London.

Crack designers Alfie Allen and Jack Wells have also contributed work.

Speaking about the project in a press release, Faik said, “Iraq and Syria captures an important part of our shared story, and we hope it can both engage and contribute to a meaningful cause.”

For Iraq & Syria runs 2-30 June 2017 at KK Outlet, Hoxton Square, London.
