Listen to a wide-roaming playlist of electronic music from Skee Mask

Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Bryan Müller’s music inhabits a space beyond any easy classification. Whether releasing as Skee Mask on the Zenker Brothers-helmed imprint Ilian Tape or stepping out as SCNTST, the Munich producer lets his instincts guide him. Growing up, Müller played drums in his school band. This childhood-forged fascination for percussion and complex rhythms can still be felt in his productions today. In fact, many would argue that it’s Müller’s rhythms that have gone on to define his sound and signature over the years, more so than genre.

As Skee Mask, Müller has released celebrated full-length records such as 2021’s Pool and 2018’s Compro. (The latter was recently described as “up there [with] some of the best electronic albums” by Flying Lotus.) More recently, Müller treated fans to a pair of new EPs that he shared as part of his ISS series for Ilian Tape. One of which leaned into slamming dancefloor fuel, and the other – ISS007 – floated through gorgeous ambient terrain.

This evening (19 May), Müller will head to the German capital for Stone Island Presents Berlin. Staged at Wilhelm Hallen, the event will also host performances from a slew of similarly explorative artists, including Beatrice Dillion, KMRU, Pelada, Lorenzo Senni and PAN’s Bill Kouligas. Ahead of time, Müller offers us a glimpse into his record collection as he curates a wide-roaming set of sublime and sprawling techno, Chicago footwork, house, instrumental grime and more.
