Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Debby Friday’s work emanates a self-assured tenacity. With a sonic fusion that contorts pop, hip-hop, punk, club beats and experimental electronics into an incisive and swaggering catharsis, the Nigerian-born, Toronto-based artist channels a full existential expression – embracing all the extremities that life entails, both the highs and lows.

Last month, she released her long-awaited debut album GOOD LUCK. Following on from previous EPs BITCHPUNK and DEATH DRIVE, the record further showcases Debby Friday’s shape-shifting sonic dexterity. It also hones in on the potency of her artistry and was released with an accompanying short film which Debby Friday co-directed with Nathan De Paz Habib. Across the album – from the moments of bravado to the raw vulnerability – is a tangible creative necessity, Debby Friday’s work driven by a vital urgency to create art into which she pours her all.

Ahead of her performance at Austria’s Donaufestival in May, Debby Friday brings high-energy, brooding dancefloor sounds – from fragmented breaks and warped club beats to nightcore and Jersey club – for her Selections playlist. In Debby Friday’s own words, “this is a collection of tracks you listen to while getting ready to go out and have a good fucking night!” Play this one loud.

Donaufestival comes to Krems, Austria from 28 April to 7 May.
