Fauness curates a playlist for moments of inward reflection

Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Fauness’ music is the definition of dreamy. Via shimmering pop and velveteen vocals, the London-based artist inhabits a space of introspection and enchantment.

Following on from a string of EPs and singles previously, Fauness – real name Cora Gilroy-Ware – released her debut full-length at the end of last month. Produced by Jam City, The Golden Ass draws on folk, country, pop and soft rock to create a psychedelic-tinged fairytale world of her own design. That isn’t to say that it’s all sunshine and roses, Gilroy-Ware’s lyrics are deeply personal and often carry a wistful melancholy, yet what she creates across the 10-tracks is a sense of warmth and belonging. The release also hones in on the vibrant and sensitive poeticism that informs Gilroy-Ware’s work, her sweetly-sung vocals interspersed with softly-spoken refrains.

The comforting serenity and inward reflection that Fauness’ music exudes is also reflected in her Selections playlist here. “As a highly sensitive person who easily absorbs other peoples’ energies, I cherish the fleeting moments I have to be still and alone with my thoughts,” she told us of the selections, which span tracks from the likes of Iceboy Violet, Casey MQ and Posh Isolation.

“This playlist is designed to ease moments of inward reflection”, Gilroy-Ware added. “Several of the songs also go further, exploring what happens when reflection becomes self-alienation. The mental mirror shatters or clouds, and you lose touch with yourself.” Delve in below.
